Ask anyone who spends more than three minutes in my company and they will tell you that I am more obsessed with organisation than anyone they know. Take my recent job interview when armed with a folder and filo fax I managed to appear like the perfect stationary geek (sticky labels and all)

So as everyone prepares to go back to school - oh how nice not to have to join them- I thought I would share with you some of my favourite stationary items

This is perhaps the most important item I own - yes even more than my phone or laptop. My raspberry personal filo fax contains all the information and appointments I need to know - from my diary, addresses and contact info to ideas for recipes and library cards. Without this I am absolutely nothing.

Secondly is my new notebook from teNeues, complete with page numbers contents and boy lined and plain paper this really is the ultimate notebook for jotting down ideas when at home.

Finally it's my perfect moleskins (complete with apple sticker). I carry the red one in my pocket with me daily and use the black one,  which as you can see is considerably bigger, at home taking it with me only when I need the information inside.

So theres my most important items of stationary. What are yours?

Four things Friday

I don't know about you but my weeks get so hectic - filled with appointments, work shifts etc - that I stop appreciating the little things in life and only really realise them when they are gone. Perhaps because of the difficulties I have faced this year I am now more aware of this than ever and as a result have decided to record four things that make me smile every week on a Friday (four being my favourite number and Friday my favourite day).

So heres this weeks.

1. My recipe book from paper chase which contains all my personnel favourites and allows me to act out my inner Mary Berry in an evening

2. My favourite cereal (fruit and fibre boring I know) in a morning with the paper

3. The new American map hanging on my wall

4. Crawling into my onesie after work

Whats made you smile this week?

Life seems but a quick successions of busy nothings.

I'll be honest with you, for me a day spent exploring a new city, shopping with the family and enjoying what remains of the summer sunshine is pretty much my ideal day out. So it was with excitement that I set of yesterday morning to the wonderful city of bath, home of Jane Austen and some quite fabulous Roman swimming pools.

So after a quick coffee break which featured some very impressive almond croissants (no pictures though unfortunately) we embarked on what can only be described as the mother of all shopping trips, while my poor father (he loved it really) sat in all available chairs.

After having exhausted our purchasing power (my purse was now considerably lighter) and eaten our home made sandwiches in the glorious sunshine - thanks mum - we explored some of the city, taking in the wonderful buildings and historical architecture. It really is a beautiful city and I am incredibly envious of my friend who will be studying their next year!

As our day drew to a close and our feet began to pound after walking off our large coffee break we entered  the home of Jane Austen herself where my penchant for her era was well fulfilled by tea in their tea rooms.

Overall a lovely, if slightly exhausting day. Have you been anywhere lately?

Whats in my bag?

Perhaps because I’m nosy or maybe just because I’m a girl, but I’m always a sucker for a “Whats in my bag post.” Whenever I see one I just have to have a little snoop so - without further a do I shall add my own to the array.

The bag I feature is from Zara a couple of years ago and has been my goto bag ever since being both roomy (I have a lot of stuff) and strong, the handle lasts far longer than any other I have ever come across.

Baring in mind that these photos do not show any of the rubbish I also cart around with me - old receipts, plastic bags and half empty packets of tissues - but they give you some idea of the amount of stuff I cart around. So starting from the top and moving clockwise I have a packet of wet ones wet wipes, my river island coral purse, my go to snack of “go ahead bars” for when I get hungry on the go, my sunglasses from John Lewis, my filofax, my Revlon rosy nude lipstick, the best handcream and my Oxford book of short stories - perfect for when I’m stuck on the bus with nothing to do.

So there you go, a little nosey into my life. What do you carry around with you?

What I'm reading

As someone who regularly writes reading on job application forms when asked for hobbies (I always feel shopping and watching American box sets don't really count), I love it when I get into a good book. So much so that I'm going to share it with you regularly, helping me to keep trying new things and perhaps suggesting something you might like to read.

So heres my first book.

It isn't one I ever considered reading before but after coming across a number of good reviews (and finding it in a second hand book shop in almost mint condition) I felt I would give it a try.

What are you reading at the moment?

Nail it in 3 steps

After the last few days of stress - returning from holiday with a mountain of clothes to wash before I go away again, following up a number of work experience meetings and finally the exam results, I decided that today I needed a well earned rest. But what to do? After moping around the house for a while I remembered nail art something I haven't done for months since exams and school got in the way, meaning that while they are painted my nails are generally chipped and looking ever so slightly the worse for wear.

And so after a frantic search of my bedroom to find that box of nail varnishes (why is it always in the last place you look) I settled down to let my creative juices flowing. The following design is one I have seen recreated in a number of places but love because it is just so simple, so heres how I did it.

You will need: 3 different colour nail varnishes, 1 cocktail stick.

1. Paint each nail with a base coat and then 2 layer of colour (I used an old orange from boots 17 range)

2. With a smaller brush, if you have one or the regular brush if you don't, paint marks of a different colour (I used a peach of the same make which has again been discontinued) not taking to much care about how neat they are

3. Using a cocktail stick/toothpick and a darker colour again draw around the edges and Voila! your nails are done.

Do you know any simple nail designs? What do you do to relax?
